Semi-Famous Because of Cu Chi Tunnels in Vietnam

Look, Ma! I’m famous!

They say that the universe has a strange sense of humor. I’ve never believed that until my friend Leanne wrote to me at the beginning of September to tell me that I’m semi-
famous because of Cu Chi Tunnels in Vietnam. Although I haven’t been there since 2007,  apparently my trip there made a big enough impact that my face is now liberally splashed on travel advertisements all over the country.

Yes, my face is the poster child for Cu Chi Tunnels. No one ever asked my permission to use this photo, which was taken by my husband and posted here on My Several Worlds for your viewing pleasure. Nevertheless, it’s now being used for advertisements for Cu Chi Tunnels, travel tours in Vietnam, and several hotels in Vietnam. I even made it on to VietnamWiki! As a result, my face has also made it on to several travel blogs for topics as obscure as Peter Pan Syndrome.

I wonder if the other people in that photo realize that they’re semi-famous too.

Here’s my original post on Cu Chi Tunnels, which includes the photo that has become so popular in Vietnam.

As for my friend Leanne, she’s still in Vietnam and she’s volunteering with a number of organizations there to gain experience in global volunteerism. If you haven’t checked out Leanne’s volunteering abroad blog, I highly recommend that you do so!

Thank you, readers, for allowing me to poke a little fun at myself. I’ve been famous for other things, like pineapples, but that’s an entirely different story.
